Toros To Host 2010 Dennis Johnson Memorial High School All-Star Games

AUSTIN, TX March 29, 2010 - The Austin Toros will host the 2010 Dennis Johnson Memorial Girls High School All-Star Classic on April 2 at 4:30 p.m. and the Boys High School All-Star Classic on April 3 at 4:30 p.m. at the Austin Convention Center. Standout players from across the greater central Texas area will compete against each other in a North vs. South format. The annual game honors former NBA great Dennis Johnson who was the head coach of the Toros at the time of his passing.

Over 40 players from local area high schools will participate in the event, including many who will continue their basketball careers at the collegiate level. Both games will take place prior to the Toros 7:30 p.m. tip-off against the Utah Flash.

"As Austin's hometown professional basketball team, the Toros are excited to host these two very special games and to spotlight the best and brightest student athletes from the central Texas area," said Peter Lubell, Toros Chief Operating Officer. "Dennis Johnson exemplified the meaning of community and loved the game of basketball, so it is fitting that we honor his memory by attaching his name to our annual high school all-star games."

Westlake coaches Keith Smith and Allison Wooley will coach the girls' south team. Katherine Ashton (McCallum), Heather Beadle (Crocket), Dara Brown (Lake Travis), Joslin Douglas (Del Valle), Courtney Duever (Westlake), Jisele Green (Dripping Springs), Elaine Houston (Lake Travis), Alexis Jones (LBJ), Ashley Magallanez (Hays), Amanda Nielsen (Anderson), Alexis Rendon (Austin), and Gabby Wright (Akins) will play host to the north team.

The north girls' roster will be coached by Danny Cage (Round Rock). Crystal Atwood (Georgetown), Aissa Barrea (Leander), Simone Deloach (Round Rock), Jordan Hemker (Hutto), Ashley James (Stony Point), Kali Jarrel (Connally), Jordyn Johnson (Hendrickson), Kristi Lianza (Cedar Park), Christie Mooney (Pflugerville), Desiree Nelson (Coopers Cove), Sierra Nevels (Leander), Maddie Wheeler (Cedar Park), and Desiree Wylie (Killeen Ellison) were nominated by local coaches and will represent the north team.

Pat Brown (Vista Ridge) will serve as the head coach for the boys' north team with Gant Caraway (Hutto) and Clint Bradley (Leander) serving as assistant coaches. Isaiah Reeves (Vista Ridge), Demetris Smith (Pflugerville), Jean-Maurice Blanchard(Leander), Michael Farace (Liberty Hill), Jaron Vierra (Georgetown), Matt Gallagher (Cedar Park), Jordon Mason (Pflugerville Connally), Chris Clement (Stony Point), Tony Thompson (Hendrickson), William McQuitter (Rockdale), JaCorie Baker (Killeen),and Robert Sykes (Hutto) will play for the north team who will wear black jerseys.

John Morgan (Crockett) will serve as the head coach for the south team with David Peavy (Akins), Freddie Roland (LBJ) and Don Holland (Crockett) serving as assistant coaches. Daniel Alexander (Dripping Springs), Cornelius Cammock (Reagan), Zach Cervantes (Travis), Donald Dallas, (LBJ), Cody Doolin (Westlake), Zach Karczewski (Lake Travis), Rodney Lee (Del Valle), Gus Leeper (Westlake), Trey Lindsey (Bowie), Kevin McFarlane (Akins), Tevin Shedd (Crockett), Braylyn Thomas (Del Valle),and Cole Vucurevich (Lake Travis) will play host to the north team, and will be wearing white jerseys.
