
Armor Lose First Of Two To Mad Ants

SPRINGFIELD, MA March 29, 2010 - The Armor fell to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 108-88 in Monday night's game as 2,823 fans cheered on the Armor in their 'Going Green Knight'.
In the first quarter the Springfield Armor's scoring field was spread throughout all five starting players. Three Armor players had 5 points each and shot 66.7% as a teamfrom the free throw line. However, Fort Wayne's 6' 9'' forward Robert Kurz put up 9 points of his own while teammate Oliver Lafayette added 4. Fort Wayne shot 75% at the free throw line and ended the first quarter leading 29-26.
At 8:42 in the second quarter Armor's Cory Minnifield banked a three point shot that put Springfield within two. Springfield would take the lead from Fort Wayne with a surge lead by Tre Whitted and Justin Hawkins. The lead wouldn't last long as the Mad Ants charged back with a vengeance and teammates Kurz and Lafayette would lead the team in both in points and assists. Fort Wayne shot 55.3% from the field and 50% from beyond the arch, outscoring Springfield's 38.6% and 30% in both categories respectively. The Mad Ants marched to the locker room at half time leading the Springfield Armor 60-46.
In the third quarter, the Springfield Armor looked to make a comeback with a Noel Felix dunk and two made free throws by Hawkins. Fort Wayne's forward Ryan Ayers would end the Armor's run with a long jump shot to put the lead back into double digits. The Armor started to look good late in third with a 10-3 run making it 70-75. The Mad Ants quickly responded and ended the quarter leading 70-79.
Fort Wayne continued to increase their lead with another Ayers three pointer to start the fourth quarter. Kurz ended the game with 24 and Lafayette was lead scorer with 26. Armor's top scorer's were Hawkins (16) and Whitted (12). The two teams will meet again Thursday night at the MassMutaul Center at 7:00 for Fan Appreciation Knight. Tickets are still available for the Armor's final homestead and are sold at the MassMutual Center box office in downtown Springfield.
