Austin, TX Nov. 28, 2010 - The Austin Toros improved their home court record to 2-0 after defeating the Rio Grande Valley Vipers Sunday at Cedar Park Center. With the 116-109 victory on Sunday, the Toros capture the first two of nine match-ups against their in-state rival. For the second straight game Lewis Clinch led all scorers with 26 points, 18 occurring in the second half.
The Toros started the game strong with a 7-0 run in the first quarter, but the Vipers remained close by shooting 80 percent from the free throw line. Patrick Patterson and Jerel McNeal caught fire in the second quarter and scored 24 combined points that allowed the Vipers to take the lead before the half. The second half was a tug of war with seven lead changes and eight ties during the third and fourth quarters. Turnovers were a problem for both teams with the Toros committing 20 and the Vipers 21.
Vipers' Patrick Patterson had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. While the Toros' Lance Thomas (18 points, 9 rebounds) and Kevin Palmer (13 points, 9 rebounds) were both one rebound shy of recording their own double-double. Jerel McNeal and Patrick Patterson both scored 22 points each for the Vipers. They were followed by Richard Roby (18), Mustafa Shakur (16) and Antonio Anderson (15).
The back and forth struggle came down to the last minute, but Lewis Clinch proved too much for the Vipers down the stretch, once again scoring ten crucial points in the fourth quarter.
