AUSTIN, TX - Marcus Williams scored 25 points and the Austin Toros snapped a four game losing streak by crushing the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 110-75 on Thursday night at the Austin Convention Center.
The Toros set a season-high for largest margin of victory with 35 points, breaking the previous record set during the 118-87 victory over the Dakota Wizards.
Austin built a double-digit lead in the second quarter and led by 40 points late in the fourth quarter. Rio Grande Valley cut the lead to three points early in the third quarter but the Toros would answer the surge by the Vipers. Austin answered with a 31-9 run to close out the quarter and close out the game for the Vipers, who dropped to 16-27 on the season.
Serge Angounou was among the six Toros who scored in double figures, scoring a season-high 15 points. DerMarr Johnson added 19 points for the Toros and Justin Bowen netted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Toros, who improve to 26-15.
Rio Grande Valley was led in scoring by Ivan Johnson, who scored 18 points. Desmon Farmer had 17 and Kris Collins chipped in 13 with three assists.
The Toros remain in first place in the Southwest Division and are on pace to make their first-ever franchise appearance in the NBA D-League playoffs. With the win tonight, Austin won its 17 game at home this season and set a franchise record for most home wins in a season.
