Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, Michigan - The Lumberjacks attempt at another comeback victory fell short tonight as the Dubuque Fighting Saints claimed a 5-3 victory at the L.C. Walker Arena.
The Fighting Saints (10-0-1, 21 points) struck twice in the first period from Forwards Evan Janssen (4:28 mark) and Mike Szmatula (8:22 mark) to make it 2-0 Dubuque after one period. Dubuque went on to make it 3-0 at the 2:49 mark of the second period with a goal from Forward Peter Quenneville.
The Lumberjacks (8-2-1, 17 points) then went to work on the power play with a goal at the 5:21 mark from Defenseman Mike Brodzinski to make it 3-1 Dubuque. The Fighting Saints then added to their lead at the 12:05 mark of the middle stanza with a power play goal from Forward John Stevens. The Lumberjacks came back on the power play with a fortunate bounce and a goal from Forward Max Shuart at the 14:46 mark.
The third period saw the Lumberjacks make it a 4-3 game on the power play again from Shuart at the 12:37 mark of the period. Late in the game, the Lumberjacks thought they had tied it up when Shuart swatted the puck out of midair in the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed. Dubuque then sealed the victory with an empty net goal at the 19:55 mark from Forward Jarrid Privitera to cap off a 5-3 Fighting Saints victory.
The Fighting Saints outshot the Lumberjacks 30-23 in the game, and Max Shuart led the Lumberjacks with two points (both power play goals) in the loss. The Lumberjacks went 3-4 on the power play tonight, and Goaltender Kevin Lindskoug stopped 25 of the 29 shots he faced.
The Lumberjacks wrap up their four-game home stand with a game tomorrow night against the same Dubuque Fighting Saints team for a 7:15 pm puck drop. Tickets are available and can be purchased by visiting www.muskegonlumberjacks.com or calling (231) 724-JACK (5225).
