St. George RoadRunners News Release
TUCSON, AZ - The St. George RoadRunners fell on the wrong side of a pitcher's duel on Saturday night at Hi-Corbett Field. The hometown Toros held off St. George 2-1 to even up the series at one game apiece.
Raymar Diaz scattered two runs (one earned) on hits over six frames, but receives his first loss of the 2010 season.
Toro starter John Bannister allowed four hits and the lone STG run in the first to improve to 2-0. Emiliano Fruto rebounded from a shaky outing on Friday night by striking out three for his fourth save.
The RoadRunners broke from the gates early. Ruddy Yan doubled down the left field line and scored two batters later on a Carlos Sosa single to right-center.
Tucson's equalizer came in the third when Luis Apodaca scored from second on a throwing error.
Apodaca cashed in the go-ahead run in the fifth plating Cristobal Santana who doubled to lead off the inning.
The RoadRunners has opportunities to tie the game - the best coming in the eighth after a one-out triple from Jermy Acey. A Brett Flowers line out to third and a strikeout from Henry Calderon stranded Acey ninety feet from home.
St. George drops to 7-11 on the year with the loss while the Toros improve to 10-11.
Game three of the series, the rubber match, is Sunday night at 8:00pm Mountain. RHP Reed Dickert is tabbed to start for the RoadRunners. Tucson will send LHP Cody Walden to the hill in opposition.
