Tucson Toros News Release
Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Toros won 2-1 Saturday night behind a dominant performance by starting pitcher John Bannister. The Tucson Toros snapped a three game losing streak with the victory to pull within a game of .500 at 10-11 this year.
Bannister took to the mound for his home debut after starting the season on the Inactive List because of a torn fingernail. The Tucson native went 6 innings allowing just 1 run on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6 and improved his record to 2-1.
The RoadRunners jumped to an early lead in the 1st inning for the second straight night, with Ruddy Yan scoring after a leadoff double.
The Toros countered with an unearned run in the 3rd off of a double by Luis Apodaca and an E4. Apodaca drove in the go ahead run in the 5th inning to put Tucson ahead 2-1.
The Tucson bullpen was stellar, posting 3 scoreless innings between Jason Hanna, Toby Nordman and Emiliano Fruto. Fruto earned his fourth save of the season, tied for the most in the GBL.
The Toros will attempt to win the three game series tomorrow night for Dollar Dog Sunday, with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch.
