OREM, UT Jan. 5, 2009 - The Austin Toros defeated the Colorado 14ers 95-91 in the second game of the 2009 NBA D-League Showcase, taking place on the home court of the Utah Flash at the McKay Events Center in Orem, Utah.

The Toros were led by the combination of Marcus Williams, who scored 14 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and Malik Hairston, on assignment from the San Antonio Spurs, who scored 23 en route to the four-point win. Williams also grabbed ten rebounds, while Charles Gaines chipped in with 18 boards.

A close game throughout, Colorado guard Eddie Gill brought his 14ers within 3, 92-89, with 11.8 seconds to play when he hit a three-pointer from the corner. After a quick Toros timeout, Austin was able to close the game out for the victory.

"Our whole team started off a little slow, we had to get the goose bumps off. I think we were all a little bit nervous, but we played great team ball and some good defense," said Williams, the Player of the Game. "We know they're the highest scoring team in the league, so we had to come in and lock it down - we did a good job, and I'm happy to have gotten the win."

Colorado's offense was spearheaded by Sonny Weems' 21 point outing during his assignment from the Denver Nuggets. He was complimented by Josh Davis who finished with a double-double (17 points, 12 rebounds).

Austin improves to 12-5 on the season, while Colorado falls to 9-5

The Toros and 14ers each return to the court for their second NBA D-League Showcase game on Thursday, Jan. 8 when they face the Bakersfield Jam and Anaheim Arsenal, respectively.
