2009 NBA D-LEAGUE SHOWCASE TIPOFF TODAY
The 2009 NBA Development League Showcase tips off its 16-game schedule and runs through Thursday, Jan. 8. The fifth annual event will take place at the McKay Events Center, home of the Utah Flash, in Orem, Utah and will feature all 16 NBA D-League teams playing two games apiece under one roof. Fans can stay in step with their favorite NBA D-League team by logging onto www.nba.com/futurecast to watch every Showcase game on-line for free.
IOWA CENTER COURTNEY SIMS NAMED NBA DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Courtney Sims of the Iowa Energy has been named NBA Development League Player of the Month for games played in December. Earlier in the season, Sims was named NBA D-League Performer of the Week for games played during the Week of Nov. 28. In seven games (6-1) for the Energy during December, Sims is averaging 24.3 points and 13.0 rebounds while shooting 62-percent (67-of-109) from the floor. Through December, the Energy posted a 9-1 overall record. Sims, a 6-11 center, notched double-figured scoring in all six games, including two 30-plus point performances, (34 at the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on 12/5 and 36 vs. the Utah Flash on 12/28). Additionally, Sims recorded five double-doubles (points/rebounds).
SUNDAY NIGHT HIGHLIGHTS...top performers from Sunday's games
Larry Ayuso led the Energy with 23 points as the Iowa Energy rolled past the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 118-101. Patrick Sanders registered 22 points while Othyus Jeffers and Cartier Martin each scored 19.
Fort Wayne was led by Taj McCullough's 23 points. Alex Acker, on assignment from Detroit, added 22 points and Chris Hunter posted 15 and 11 rebounds. Walker Russell dished out 10 assists.
Jamaal Thomas erupted for a season-best 29 points off the bench. Antonio Meeking finished with 20 points and 16 rebounds, while Russell Robinson contributed 19 points and seven assists.
Ronald Dupree recorded a team-high 23 points for Tulsa, while Chris Richard posted 20 and nine rebounds.
ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENTS...a look at D-League Alumni in last night's NBA games
11 players with D-League experience competed in six NBA games last night, three as starters.
Steve Novak finished with 15 points in 29 minutes of play for the Los Angeles Clippers.
As a starter for the Toronto Raptors, Jamario Moon grabbed nine boards and added five points.
Washington's Andray Blatche scored 8 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished four assists.
