Toronto Doubles Up Manitoba

The Manitoba Moose (23-32-4-4) and Toronto Marlies (32-25-4-1) put the wraps on their season series at MTS Centre on Tuesday night. Similar to Sunday's game, the teams opened with four goals in the first period. Toronto opened the scoring on a gorgeous goal from Kerby Rychel as the Marlies forward used a one-handed deke to score at 7:47. The Moose tied things up just across the midway point of the frame. Brenden Kichton let a shot go and it was tipped by Brendan Lemieux in front for a powerplay goal. The Marlies regained the lead at the 12:44 mark when Steve Oleksy snuck in from the point on the powerplay and snapped a shot to the top corner. Again the home side replied when Kyle Connor feathered a backhand pass across to JC Lipon who showed off some quick hands to tally his eighth of the season. The goal coming with 5:36 left sent the teams to the break tied 2-2. It took until midway through the period for the scoring to get going in the middle frame. Brett Findlay got the Marlies back the lead, just managing to squeeze a shot past Eric Comrie for the 3-2 marker. Brendan Leipsic gave the Marlies a two goal edge when he knocked in a Colin Greening rebound with 3:10 left in the period. The Moose pulled back within one with 47 seconds left as JC Lipon uncorked a shot from the point for his second of the night. The Marlies had a response 33 seconds later from Andrew Campbell to take a 5-3 lead to the third. The Manitoba penalty kill came up with a big stop in the third, facing down a high-sticking double-minor in the early stages to keep the score within two. Unfortunately for the hosts, Frederik Gauthier added to the Marlies lead, jamming a loose puck over the line to make it 6-3. The Moose were unable to close the gap as Toronto took the two points. * JC Lipon's two-goal performance was the first of his season.

* Kyle Connor has points in three straight games with five points (1G, 4A) in that time.

* Scott Kosmachuk has registered a shot on goal in 30 straight games played.

* Game attendance was announced at 4,029. Quotable Head Coach Pascal Vincent - "That's a team that will expose your defensemen, and once they get going in the offensive zone it's a five man cycle. They move well, they have good skills, they take advantage of their chances. But in front of our net we need to be stronger." Forward Chase De Leo - "Obviously the Marlies are a good team, and they were a good team last year too. We played a really good game last game against them, and we knew they were going to come out strong and come out fast. I think it just kind of goes back to special teams and penalty trouble. We've got to be disciplined, and we've got to give ourselves the best chance to win, especially against a team like that."
