New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals surrendered a season-high 13 runs on 18 hits as the Worcester Tornadoes, behind a stellar outing by starter John Kelly, came away with a 13-3 win on Tuesday night at a damp Yogi Berra Stadium.

In the losing effort, second baseman Argenis Reyes picked up three of the Jackals' eight hits in a 3-for-5 night at the plate. Right fielder Kevin Clark walked twice, but an 0-for-3 effort snapped his league-best 15-game hitting streak.

Kelly (3-0) struck out six batters and allowed just three hits in five shutout innings as he beat the Jackals for the second time in less than a week. New Jersey starter Nick Asselin (1-4) lost his third straight decision after surrendering eight runs - six earned - on 11 hits over five frames. For the Jackals, rookie Luis Fernandez contributed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Trailing 8-0, the Jackals began to rally back when first baseman Jabe Bergeron laced a two-run single with two outs in the sixth. New Jersey cut its deficit to 8-3 on an RBI groundout off the bat of left fielder Jacob Butler in the eighth, but the Tornadoes plated five runs - just one earned - against reliever Jairo Mendez in the top of the ninth to cap the scoring.

The Jackals (11-13) and Tornadoes (9-15) conclude their three-game series on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. when New Jersey sends left-hander Ryan Lobban (1-1, 3.38 ERA) to the mound against Worcester righty Chris Farley (2-2, 2.76 ERA). Lobban, a New Jersey native, has tossed seven shutout innings in each of his past two outings. Cody Chrusciel has the live call on the Jackals webcast beginning 10 minutes prior to first pitch at www.jackals.com.
