Worcester Tornadoes News Release
WORCESTER - The Worcester Tornadoes were trailing the Sussex Skyhawks 9-0 in the middle of the fourth inning when torrential rain forced a 74-minute rain delay and the subsequent suspension of the game. It will be resumed at 11 a.m. tomorrow prior to the regularly scheduled contest, which will be a seven-inning affair.
Shaun McNamara had a tough first inning giving up five runs on three hits, including a long home run. After a Ron Perodin walk, Kevin Rios opened up the 2-0 lead with a long ball to left field. Five batters later, Yohanny Valera hit a grounder to first which got under Chris Colabello's glove and into right field, scoring Jorge Moreno for the 3-0 advantage. Sussex tacked on two more on a Chris Brown single which scored Matt Weston and Valera for the 5-0 lead.
The Skyhawks made it 6-0 in the third when Weston crushed a long solo shot to the opposite field for his 10th of the season. Moreno then hit a monster three-run home run to left field which hit Route 290 to drive in Perodin and Rios for the 9-0 score.
The series concludes with a doubleheader on Wednesday morning on Park & Rec Day! After a day off, Worcester remains home for a pair vs. Nashua. There will be a spectacular fireworks show on Friday night and Saturday is Irish Night!
