Tornadoes start off second half right

Worcester Tornadoes News Release

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--- Ryan Lobban (6-3) picked up his second strait winning decision and his sixth win of the year as Worcester wins game one of the second half of the season against the Capitales 5-1. The Tornadoes only put up runs in the third (one) and fourth (three), but big runs they were. Mike and Mike were the catalysts for Worcester; Mike O'Malley provided his best offensive night in his fourth start going two for four with two runs scored and Mike MacMillan added a four hit night.

Carlos Sosa was no slouch either racking up 3 RBI's in a 2-4 night. He was also embroiled in a controversy in the eighth when he fouled off a pitch and let his bat go flying towards second base. This set off Capitale manager Michel LaPlante. Already arguing balls and strikes earlier, LaPlante was ejected by home plate umpire John Millett but got his monies worth by following Millett around for about a minute and a half up and down the first base line. Sosa walked on the next pitch.

Michel Simard (4-6) got the loss, pitching four and two thirds striking out three, and coughing up all five runs, four earned. Brett Palanski threw two and two thirds scoreless for Quebec also. The former American Defender was particularly impressive striking out four. Tonight also marked the start of Ryan Quinn's professional career for Worcester. The right-handed rookie from Southern New Hampshire University pitched a scoreless seventh, before giving way to Chris Anderson for another two.

The Tornadoes will try to make it four in a row tomorrow against these Capitales at 7:05. RHP Josef Frias for Worcester and RHP and former Cy Yound Award winner Eric Gagne for Quebec.
