Skyhawks Make Roster Changes

July 20, 2009 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Sussex Skyhawks News Release

The Sussex Skyhawks pick up two additions to the team, pitcher Edward Campusano and catcher Ryan Boelsen. They also released two players last week, closing pitcher Matt Petrusek and backup catcher David Adamchick. The first roster move involved Matt Petrusek being released. After a stellar 2008 season with the Skyhawks in which he led the Ca-Am League with 24 saves and a 1.79 ERA, his ERA dropped to 7.79 in 16 games played this season. "In 14 years managing in independent ball, this is by far the toughest move I had to make," said Skyhawks manager Hal Lanier. The Skyhawks signed left-handed relief pitcher Edward Campusano to take Petrusek's place. At AA Tennessee last season, he was 3-3 with a 6.34 ERA in 34 games. The 6-foot-4 Paterson, NJ resident has pitched 4.1 innings in his first week with the team.

Back up catcher David Adamchick was also released last week. A newcomer to the team this year, Adamchick was batting .136 in 12 games this season. Replacing him is Ryan Boelsen, a 6-foot-2 rookie catcher from Adelphi University in New York. A resident of Garden City, NY, he had a .989 fielding percentage behind the plate as a senior. Offensively, he had a .361 average, 66 hits and a team-best 39 RBI. "He worked out for us and he really impressed us," Lanier said. "We're looking to get better defensively and someone with more arm strength." Boelsen has played in two games since joining the team last week, batting .333 with two hits and two RBI. The Skyhawks return to Augusta Thursday, July 23 to face Worcester in a 4 game series. Start time is set for 7:05 pm. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the website at www.sussexskyhawks.com or by calling 973-300-1000 ext 21.
