Tornadoes Split, But Jackals Take Series

June 3, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Tornadoes starter Dan Sausville can hold his head high after he pitched a complete game shutout in Game one of today's double-header, but the Tornadoes leave their six-game home stand with a bitter taste as they split the twin bill.

Dan Sausville went all seven innings in 2:05 game today, not allowing a run and recording four strike outs to improve to a 3-0 record on the season as the Tornadoes take one from the Jackals 3-0. All three of his wins have come after a tornadoes loss in 2012.

However, the story in game two was the pitcher going for the Jackals, Isaac Pavlik. Not only did he pass John Kelly, a former tornadoes pitcher, in career strike outs, but also got his third win of the season, winning game two. He went five innings, with four earned runs and six strikeouts as the Jackals went on to win 8-4.

He now has 629 strikeouts for his career and 26 on the season, which leads the Canadian-American Professional Baseball league.

The losing pitcher for each team, however, did not look as good. Kyle Greenwalt (1-1), who pitched the first game for the Jackals, pitched five innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits and recording five strikeouts. Meanwhile, Kevin Cooper lost game two, falling to 1-2 on the season. He only lasted four innings, giving up five earned runs and recording five strikeouts.

Johnny Welch provided the bright spot in the game by hitting two home runs, one in each game, en route to a 5-7 day with four RBI. The third baseman now leads the tornadoes hitters in home runs with four on the season.

Alex Trezza also had a great run-producing day, slapping a two-run single in the fourth inning of game one after Jose Canseco got ejected from the game arguing balls and strikes. He also had a third RBI in the third inning of game two on a sacrifice fly, giving him seven RBI for the season.

Former Tornado Francisco Caraballo had a home run of his own for the Jackals in the fourth inning of the second game, which started a five run rally against starter Kevin Cooper. That inning included a two-run double by back-up infielder Roberto Ramos.

The Tornadoes also fail in their third attempt to reach a .500 winning percentage, falling to 6-8 on the season, fourth in the Can-Am standings. The Worcester team will have the day off tomorrow before they travel to Quebec City to face Les Capitales on a quick three-game road trip.

Nick Gagalis will have the call on USTREAM.tv on Tuesday at 7:05 and will also bless you with a pregame show that will start at 6:50.
