Can-Am League Game Recaps

June 3, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release

Worcester 3, New Jersey 0 (7 innings)

RHP Dan Sausville threw seven shutout innings to beat the New Jersey Jackals in the first game of a doubleheader. The Worcester starter allowed five hits and struck out four, as he went the distance for the first time this season. The Tornadoes gave Sausville an early lead when 3B Johnny Welch hit a solo home run in the second inning. Worcester added a pair more runs in the next inning to win, 3-0.

Newark 7, St. Paul 1

The Newark Bears used the long ball to top St. Paul, 7-1. Newark struck first in the second inning with back-to-back home runs by DH Burt Reynolds and RF Eric McGee. In the fifth inning, 1B Daryle Ward expended the lead with a three-run home run. SS Alex Bardeguez was the Bears' most consistent hitter, leading the team with a 3-for-4 performance. On the mound, RHP Mike Ness earned his second win of the season. Ness went seven innings, allowing one run on six hits.

Rockland 3, Quebec 2

For 7.5 innings, Quebec was in control. After a double by DH Patrick D'Aoust and a single by C Josue Peley, the Capitales grabbed a 2-0 lead and were cruising behind the strong pitching of LHP Adam Kudryk. As soon as Kudryk exited, however, the game unraveled for the Capitales. A double and a wild pitch plated the Boulders' first run of the game in the bottom of the eighth. Later that inning, a passed ball led to a two-run single by CF Chris Valencia and Rockland grabbed its first lead of the game. After a strong, eight inning start, Rockland RHP Jonathan Velasquez was finally rewarded with the lead and earned his first win of the year. RHP Adrian Martin picked up his third save of the season when Quebec hit into an unconventional 4-4-6 double play with the tying run on second.
