Worcester Tornadoes News Release
AUGUSTA, NJ--- There are no must win games this early in the second half of the season, but this tilt definitely qualified as a âwould-really-like-to-have' game. The Tornadoes stepped up and halted their two game losing streak by beating Sussex tonight 6-4.
Ryan Lobban (7-3) danced through the first five innings, leaving men on in every one, and then came unraveled to a degree in the sixth. Worcester jumped out to a four run advantage on the backs of Alex Trezza and Carlos Sosa. Both men socked solo shots, each of which was the player's team leading seventh home run. That four run lead evaporated to nothing after four SkyHawk singles and a two run double from Chris Brown.
Unfazed, Vinny Pennell lead off the seventh with a single and came around to score the go-ahead and eventual winning run with Chris Colabello's second double of the game. Vinny would repeat that process, this time with a Sosa single, in the ninth for an insurance run, 6-4.
Nick Conway faced seven batters in the seventh and eighth, striking out three, to set up Santiago Ramirez for his sixth save. Lobban becomes the first CanAm league pitcher to reach the seven-win plateau.
A win tomorrow at 2:05 for Worcester would mean a successful 4-3 road trip. Jusef Frias (1-2) will take the ball for the Tornadoes against Justin Knoff (4-3) for Sussex.
