Game Notes: Taking the hill in the first game of this three game series for the Tornadoes will be 6'2" righty Matt McDonald. This will be his 16th appearance and ninth start of the season, including his second appearance against the Colonials this season. After starting the season with six straight starts, McDonald went on the DL and came back as a member of the bullpen, recently going back to the rotation. His last start out on August 14th was one of his best this year, going six strong innings and giving up just five hits while striking out seven Jackals in the win. In five of his eight starts he went at least five innings and gave up just two earned runs or less, getting quality starts in four of those eight starts. In McDonald's one appearance against the Colonials, he threw two innings while giving up seven runs (six earned), five hits, and walking four while striking out one. Opposing him will be 6'4" righty Patrick Moran. He is 4-1 on the season with a 3.95 ERA and like McDonald has spent some time as both a starter and reliever. His longest outing occurred on August 14th against the Brockton Rox, going seven innings and giving up four earned runs and five hits in the no-decision. He has faced the Tornadoes three times this season, with 7.04 ERA in seven and two thirds innings pitched. He struck out seven batters in those games while giving up 11 hits.

Wednesday Night: Worcester lost a close one in 10 innings to the Sussex Skyhawks 7-6, dropping the important three game series 2-1. Sussex started out scoring one in the bottom of the first but the Tornadoes tied it back up in the second. The Skyhawks then put together a three run bottom of the third to go on top 4-1 before relinquishing that lead when the Tornadoes got four runs in the top of the fifth, with the big blow coming from a Billy Cather three run homer. Sussex tied it up again in the bottom of the seventh, only to see that score disappear in the top of the eighth before they would tie it up in the bottom of that frame. Albert Ayala was the unlucky loser, giving up the winning run in the bottom of the tenth. For the Skyhawks, Caleb Stewart had two solo shots in the win. Besides Cather's three RBI's, the Tornadoes also got runs from a Mark Minicozzi solo homerun as well as from catcher Craig Maddox. John Kelly, who started for the Tornadoes, went six innings giving up six hits and four earned runs while striking out seven Skyhawks. His counterpart, Trevor Marcotte, went seven innings while allowing five runs (four earned) and 10 hits, walking no one.
