Game Notes: The Tornadoes will send Justin Knoff to the mound for his 5th start of the season and his second against the Jackals, looking to win the first of a three game series against New Jersey. The Tornadoes are 3-1 when Knoff starts and have scored 22 runs in those four contests. 2 of his 4 starts have been quality starts, with his best coming against New Jersey on July 21st. In that game, he went 7 innings giving up 2 earned runs while scattering 8 hits. He has also started twice at Sussex, giving up just 1 earned run and 7 hits during 11 innings of work. Knoff has gone at least 5 innings in every start and has lasted 7 innings in two. Opposing Knoff will be 6'3" lefty Ryan Lobban, who pitched for the Tornadoes the past two seasons. So far on the seasons, he has started 12 games, pitching 68 1/3 innings and giving up 80 hits and 26 walks. He also has struck out 47 batters. Ryan did not fair well his last time out, giving up 7 runs (6 earned), 7 hits, and 6 walks in a losing effort against Pittsfield on August 1st. He has faced Worcester twice this season, recording a no decision in both starts. He has given up 10 earned runs, 18 hits, and 1 walk in 11 1/3 innings, with the Jackals losing both of those games. New Jersey is 6-6 when Lobban starts.
Last Night: Worcester scored 6 runs in the first 4 innings and were able to defeat the Pittsfield Colonials 9-4, giving them the series sweep and putting them in 3rd place in the second half standings at 9-8, two games behind the Colonials. Starter John Kelly picked up the win, scattering 7 hits and allowing just 1 earned run in 5 innings of work. The bullpen combo of Shawn Gilblair, John Slusarz, and Albert Ayala shut the door the rest of the way, combining for 4 innings while giving up 5 hits and 3 earned runs. Offensively for Worcester, Billy Cather reached base safely all 5 times he went to the plate, picking up a single, double, triple, and 2 walks as well as scoring a run. Also having big nights were Mark Minicozzi, who had a 3 run homerun, and Craig Maddox, who had 2 hits (including 1 triple) and knocked in two runs. Only three players picked up RBI's in the game, which was the combo of Maddox (2), Minicozzi (3), and Chris Colabello (2). The Tornadoes also had 5 players get multiple hits, which were Omar Pena, Colabello, Danny Santiesteban, Maddox, and Cather. On the other side, Colonials starter Miguel Flores went 5 innings in the loss, giving up 9 hits, 6 runs (5 earned), and walking 3 batters. Daniel Carte and Quentin Davis each collected three hits in the game, with 2 of Davis' being doubles.

Offense: Ryan Crespi leads the team with a .311 average and is 3rd with a .378 on base percentage. Chris Colabello leads the team with 10 home runs, 47 RBI's, and 45 runs scored. Omar Pena leads the team with .383 on base percentage, 9 stolen bases, and 34 walks. Danny Santiesteban is second on the team with 9 home runs and leads the team with a .569 slugging percentage.
Pitching: Shawn Gilblair has a team low 1.96 ERA, a team high of 27 appearances, a team high of 41 1/3 innings, and a reliever high of 36 strikeouts. He is also tied with Rick Asadoorian for the team low in average against with .196. John Kelley has the most wins with 8 and strikeouts with 69. Asadoorian also has the team low in on base percentage against with .255. In the last 7 days, opposing players are only batting .241 against the Tornadoes
