Brockton, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials dropped game one of a three game series to the Brockton Rox 5-3 at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, MA on Friday night.
Colonials' starter David Qualben (4-6) suffered the loss going seven innings allowing five runs on eleven hits, one walk, and three strike-outs.
Pittsfield designated hitter Angel Molina (3-for-5, 2 RBI) notched three hits and drove in a pair for the Colonials while third baseman Jason Taylor (2-for-5, 2B, RBI) doubled in a run in the losing effort.
Rox starting pitcher Mike Smith (9-3) earned his league leading ninth win of the season lasting seven innings giving-up two runs on nine hits, three walks, and seven strike outs. Rox closer Hunter Davis (9) recorded his ninth save of the season allowing one run on two hits in the ninth inning.
Brockton center fielder Chris Valencia (1-for-4, 3B, 2 RBI) had a two-run triple in the game while teammate Chris Grossman (2-for-3, HR, 2B, RBI) homered and doubled. First baseman Melvin Falu (3-for-4) enjoyed a three hit performance for the winners.
The Colonials will game two of the three game set with Brockton on Saturday at 7:05pm when righty Kyle Zaleski (7-2) takes the ball against Worcester's Mike Wldoarczyk (7-3).
