WORCESTER, MA- With an early start due to the looming effects of Hurricane Ernesto, the Tornadoes tried a late ninth inning rally but feel short to the Spirit 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

Andrew Wishy hit a sacrifice fly that scored Jeff Brooks to put the Spirit up 1-0 in the second and they would never relinquish the lead. Alex Trezza hit his third two-run homer in as many days in the fourth.

Josh Beauregard led off the fourth hitting with a towering homer to left field to put the Tornadoes on the board.

The Spirit went up 4-1 in the sixth when Luis Sabino had an RBI fielder's choice that scored Jeff Brooks who had reached base on a walk.

The Tornadoes led off the ninth inning with a single by Austin Wasserman followed up by a double by Chris Colabello. Wasserman would come around to score on an RBI ground out by Jabe Bergeron. Colabello would bring the game with in one off as Danilo Reynoso hit a ball that was missed by the Spirit second baseman. That would be all the damage they would be able to do.

The Tornadoes had a conglomeration of pitchers during the day as starter Alex Pena pitched only two innings before coming out of the game giving up an unearned run and Reid Willett came on in relief. Willet pitched 3.1 innings allowing three runs (all earned). Next on the hill was Dave Byard who had one of his best outings of the year going 1.2 innings allowing no hits or runs. Dallas Mahan went one inning letting one hit by him. Next out of the Tornadoes pen was Chris Shank, who pitched the final inning. Pena took the loss as Spirit's Sam Smith picked up the win and Kevin Fitzgerald recorded the save.
