New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals avenged being swept in Friday night' s doubleheader, with a 7-2 win over the Rox on Saturday.

New Jersey plated a pair of runs in the top half of the second inning. RBI singles by Alex Fernandez and Clay Kuklick gave the Jackals a 2-0 advantage.

Entering the bottom of the fifth, New Jersey starter Joe Orloski had retired the last 11 Rox he faced in succession. But Brockton would break that streak and the shutout. Mike Torres homered to lead off the inning, and John Schmitz collected a sacrifice fly, good for an RBI, to tie the score.

But in the next half inning, the Jackals regained the lead. A leadoff double by Wilton Veras eventually led to a sacrifice by Fernandez, making it a 3-2 lead.

After re-taking the lead, the New Jersey broke the game wide open in the seventh with four runs, with Guillermo Reyes being responsible for all of them. He drove in three with a bases loaded double, and then scored on a wild pitch. Following the big frame, the Jackals led 7-2, and that would end up as the final score.

Joe Orloski was phenomenal. He twirled seven innings, while allowing just two earned runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out three in the win.

Brockton starter Chris Trevino suffered the loss in his first start since being acquired from the El Paso Diablos.
