Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Ryan Lobban started his outing with four scoreless innings, but the Jackals scored the only runs they would need in the fifth en route to a 5-0 victory at Yogi Berra Stadium on Friday night. The Tornadoes were held scoreless for just the second time this season, one night removed from a complete game shutout by Shawn Gilblair on their side.
A.J. Wideman picked up the win (4-2) for the Jackals, dealing 7.2 runless innings. He only struck out one batter, but reached a three-ball count just once and induced 11 ground ball outs. He retired the Tornadoes in order three times, and gave up just five hits.
The Jackals' two runs in the fifth came on a D'Angelo Jimenez single. The former major leaguer plated both Sean Smith and Mike DeJesus with the base hit. One inning later, Chris Anderson hit his seventh homerun of the season (and fourth against Worcester). Both Leslie and Nick Giarraputo scored in the seventh frame for New Jersey, which ended the night's scoring.
The middle game of the weekend series (and 12th match-up out of 13 in the 2011 regular season) starts at 6:35pm. Kevin Cooper will be on the mound for the Tornadoes. Audio coverage of the game begins at 6:20 on USTREAM with Tornadoes Pre-Game Live.
