New York Boulders News Release

RAMAPO, New York - The Rockland Boulders held on to beat the New York Federals 9-7 on Friday night at Provident Bank Park. This marks the team's third straight win and their third straight game of scoring at least eight runs.

Both teams came prepared in the first game of the three-game series, as they combined for 24 hits. Rockland's starter Will Hassett and New York's starter Jim Schult were both charged with at least five runs each.

The Boulders got off to a fast start in the first inning as they batted around the order. Ray Stokes drew a leadoff walk and then stole second base (his first of four, which tied a Boulders record). He then scored on a single from Ryan Mollica to give the Boulders an early 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, the Boulders loaded the bases for Scott Clement, who singled home Mollica and Barry Wesson to increase their edge by three. The inning continued as Cole Kraft singled with the bases loaded to score Norm Hutchins and put the Boulders up 4-0.

In the second, the Federals answered back with two runs of their own aided by two throwing errors on one play by the Boulders, cutting the lead to 4-2.

Rockland would put another run over in the third. After Mollica led off with a double, Wesson singled him in with one out to increase the lead to 5-2.

The Boulders went right back to work in the fourth. Ray Stokes proceeded to steal second, third, and then scored on a dropped strike three to put Rockland up 6-2.

Rockland continued to pad their lead in the sixth, as Ryde Rodriguez hit his third home run of the season to give the Boulders a 7-2 advantage.

In the seventh, the Federals tried to rally with help from Dan Coury, who hit a three run homer off Hassett to chase Rockland's starter from the game, and cut the lead to 7-5. New York added another run on a two-out double from Steve Detwiler off Jon Shepard to make the score 7-6.

In the top of the ninth, Rockland collected two more runs off hits from Mollica and Cristobal Santana to put the Boulders up 9-6.

In the bottom of the ninth, Rockland's closer, Adrian Martin, gave up a run on one hit, but was able to earn his seventeenth save and preserve Hassett's third win as a Boulder.
