Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
In an epic battle that featured 15 pitchers, 22 runs, and 34 hits, the Albuquerque Isotopes fell to the Nashville Sounds 12-10 on Friday night in game three of the American Conference Finals. Albuquerque now trails the best-of-five series two games to one and must win the final two games to advance to the PCL finals.
In front of 9,380 fans, the Sound and Isotopes played a see-saw game until the 12th when Nashville catcher Chris Snusz drove in his second run of the game, giving Nashville an 11-10 lead. Dave Doster supplied an insurance run with a single two batters later, scoring Snusz. Doster thought he had given Nashville the win in the top of the 11th as he hit a two-run homer, putting the Sounds up 10-7. Albuquerque responded as they have all year with a rally in the bottom of the 11th. Down to their last out, Kevin Hooper walked and scored on a Derek Wathan triple. Jason Wood followed with a two-run homer, tying the game at 10 and sending it to the 12th inning.
After the Sounds took an early 2-0 lead off Albuquerque starter Jason Grilli, the âTopes responded with six runs in the bottom of the first. Robert Stratton, who was second in the PCL with 32 homers this season, hit an inside-the-park three-run homer followed by a Paul Hoover solo blast for the 6-2 lead. The teams would exchange runs in the fourth before the Sounds rallied to tie the game with a four-run fifth inning. Adam Hyzdu hit a three-run homer to finish off Grilli and Jorge Toca followed with a solo blast off reliever Marty McLeary.
Albuquerque now must win Saturday night in game four versus the Sounds to force a deciding game five. Aaron Small will start for the Isotopes opposite Matt Guerrier of the Sounds.
