Sacramento River Cats News Release
The Sacramento River Cats (3-0) beat the Edmonton Trappers (0-3) 5-1 on Friday at Raley Field, completing a three-game sweep of the Trappers and securing a spot in the PCL Championship Series. The River Cats took a four-run lead in the first when 3B Luis Lopez hit a bases-loaded double to left field. On the play, Lopez advanced to third on an error by SS Anthony Medrano and scored on a throwing error by RHP Sun-Woo Kim. Sacramento tacked on a run in the second when 2B Esteban German homered to center field. The Trappers scored their lone run in the eighth inning, when PH Jake Thrower singled and scored three batters later on a base hit by 2B Luis Figueroa. German led the Cats' offense with 3 H (1 HR). RHP Erik Hiljus (1-0) earned the win, allowing just 1 ER on 4 H in 7.1 IP. This marks the first time the River Cats have won a postseason series, after losing to Salt Lake in 2000 and Tacoma in 2001. They will play the winner of the PCL's American Conference Championship Series -- either Albuquerque or Nashville. The River Cats will begin the best-of-five PCL Championship Series on Tuesday at either Albuquerque or Nashville. They will return to Raley Field on Friday to host Game Three of the series. Sacramento will host Game Four (Saturday) and Game Five (Sunday) if necessary. Tickets for all River Cats postseason home games are available at the Raley Field Box Office, at all Tickets.com outlets and by phone at (916)376-HITS.
