Modesto Nuts News Release

Modesto, CA. - 13 hits led the Modesto Nuts to a 7-4 win over the Inland Empire 66ers on Thursday night at John Thurman Field.

Raimel Tapia recorded his first four-hit game of the season in addition to a walk in five at bats as the leadoff man. Jordan Patterson cracked three hits in five at bats out of the two-hole for the Nuts (43-41; 10-4). Tapia recorded two RBI and two runs scored. Patterson drove in a pair and scored a run to secure the series victory and set up a chance for a sweep on Friday night in the four-game series finale.

Five runs in the first two innings by the Nuts' offense was enough for Zach Jemiola (W, 3-2) who worked around eight hits over six innings. The righty allowed four runs, three of which were earned. In the fifth, Jemiola allowed two runs but stranded the potential tying run in scoring position by striking out back-to-back hitters to end the inning before retiring the next three in order in the sixth to finish his outing strong.

Garrett Nuss (L, 0-6) was knocked around for five hits and five runs in only two innings of work in his start for the 66ers (39-44; 5-9).

Matt Carasiti (S, 5-7) erased a leadoff single in the ninth with a double play to face the minimum and secure the win.

The Nuts can secure a four-game series sweep of the 66ers on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. To listen on your iPhone or iPad click here.
