Lincoln Stars News Release
All three members of their top line scored as the Lincoln Stars defeated the United States National Team Development Program Under-17 team, 3-1, on Saturday night at USA Hockey Arena.
BlakeMontgomery, KeatonPeters and RyanSpinale all scored to help the Stars earn the weekend split against the NTDP. Lincoln (20-21-1-2) snapped an 0-2-1 skid and moved four points back of Sioux Falls for fifth in the Western Conference after the Stampede's 5-2 loss to Des Moines on Saturday night.
Montgomery broke a 1-1 tie at the 16:52 mark of the second for his third game-winning goal of the season. He carried the puck to the far circle, settled himself to draw off the defense and flicked the puck past goaltender Patrick Quinlan for his 17th goal of the season.
Montgomery's goal was necessary after Jack Murtagh slipped in front of the Stars' net and evened the game up at the 13:58 mark of the second. Spinale put the Stars on the board first with a one-timer from one knee at the far dot 14:53 into the game. He has recorded 9 points (4+5) over the last seven games.
Peters gave Lincoln its largest lead of the weekend with an empty-net goal in the final minute. He scored in both games of the road trip and has lit the lamp six times in the last seven games. Peters' next goal will be his 20th of the season and 40th of his Stars career.
Spinale and Montgomery both recorded a goal and an assist by picking up helpers on each other's goals. KaiJanviriya added an apple on all three Lincoln tallies.
Goaltender LucasMassie stopped 26-of-27 shots to earn his sixth win his last seven starts.
The Stars concluded February 5-2-1 and now embark on a stretch of 15 games over 31 days in March. The frenetic stretch begins Friday night at home against Tri-City in the first matchup of a weekend tripleheader against the Storm.
We need to get all three," Russo said. "For us it's one game at a time, one period at a time. First one is at home. The difference is going to be who is going to stay disciplined and stay out of the penalty box and win the special teams."
