Winnipeg (July 16, 2009) Staples Business Depot has partnered with Winnipeg Harvest and the Winnipeg Goldeyes for the Staples Business Depot "Tools For School" annual School Supply Drive taking place July 19 - September 7. Winnipeg Harvest will continue to distribute basic school supplies to client families before students return to school. "We were so pleased with what we were able to do last year in helping so many families get ready for the school year," said Staples Business Depot general manager Jason Kominetsky. "However, with the current economic situation, we know this year presents even more challenges as the need grows, so we are hoping with the momentum from last year's campaign that we will double our supplies from 2008. Together, not alone, we will have kids equipped to learn and grow." Retired teachers will be volunteering their time to run the annual school supply drive and know the importance of these tools in a child's education. Without the proper tools, these children can find it difficult to complete the schoolwork that will shape their own success and the educational health of their community. "The Winnipeg Goldeyes are proud to support this very worthwhile initiative," said teacher and former Goldeyes pitcher Donnie Smith, whose jersey will be retired at Winnipeg's July 21 game, "one that helps those students who are truly in need." "Winnipeg Harvest appreciates Staples Business Depot and the Winnipeg Goldeyes for embracing our annual School Supply Drive," said executive coordinator David Northcott. "Although we are in tough economic times, it is more critical than ever that kids move forward in their life journey standing on a solid foundation of a good education - "Tools for School" helps us all get there." School supplies can be dropped off at Winnipeg Harvest, any Staples Business Depot location and at the July 21 and August 9 Goldeyes home games. For more information about the Staples Business Depot School Supply Drive in support of Winnipeg Harvest or for your child to become a recipient, please contact: Chris Albi, Communications Coordinator, Winnipeg Harvest at (204) 982-3584 or media@winnipegharvest.org
