Schaumburg Flyers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL-The Flyers couldn't take three in a row from the first place Goldeyes, as Winnipeg banged out a franchise-record 27 hits in a 22-4 victory over Schaumburg.
The Flyers took an early lead. An RBI-single by Victor Ferrante scored last night's hero Richard Mercado in the first to tie the game 1-1.
In the bottom of the second, Jeff Dunbar and John Toussas singled. After a sacrifice bunt by Stephen Yoo, TJ Wilson drove home Dunbar with a groundout. A Brett Metheny error on a Travis Ezi ground ball scored Toussas to extend the Flyers' lead to 3-1.
But the Goldeyes broke it open in their half of the third off Alain Quijano. With two outs, Ehlers hit a bases clearing double and then he scored shortly there after on a two-run homer by Frost, his second of the year, giving Winnipeg a 6-3 lead.
Four more runs came home in the top of the fourth thanks to a Kevin West double and RBI singles by Metheny and Juan Diaz. Quijano gave up ten runs in 3.1 innings.
TJ Wilson, a bright spot for the Flyers of late, picked up his second RBI in the bottom of the 4th driving home Dunbar with a single to make it 9-4. Wilson went 2-4 with two RBIs, newcomer Toussas went 2-4 with a run, and Felix Jose went 2-4.
The Goldeyes picked up two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, three in the seventh, two more in the eighth, and three in the ninth. Kris Jiggitts and Joseph Campbell combined to pitch the final 6.2 innings for Schaumburg, allowing a combined 12 runs.
Ehlers went 4-6 with four RBIs and three runs, Diaz went 5-7 with four runs scored, Metheny went 3-7 driving in five, and Cory Patton went 4-6 with four runs scored in the Winnipeg outburst.
Quijano takes the loss, falling to 2-2 on the season, while Ace Walker went the distance improving to 6-2 on the season. The Flyers drop to 26-25 while Winnipeg breaks their seven-game losing streak and improves to 29-21.
These two wrap up their series tomorrow night at 7:05. The Flyers hand the ball to RHP Ed Almonte (4-5, 4.81) to face RHP Bear Bay (5-2, 3.72) of Winnipeg.
