Omaha Beef News Release

In his first game for the Omaha Beef, Spetlar Tonga was recognized by the IFL as the Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance during the 41-36 victory over the Wichita Wild.

In the league's official press release, Tonga was singled out for distinction by the IFL as he lined up for special teams as well as appearing for the defense.

"Tonga was all over the field on Friday night before the hometown crowd in Omaha. Tonga was the difference in the special teams for the Beef blocking 3 kicks that prevented crucial scores by the Wichita Wild. Tonga, who also plays middle linebacker, was dominant on defense racking up 7.5 tackles and 1 interception."

This is Tonga's first season with the Beef after he and O.J. Simpson joined Omaha from the Sioux City Bandits. Tonga leaves the Bandits after five seasons as their all-time leader in tackles (283). Last season, he had 69 tackles - 13.5 of which were for a loss - and 3.5 sacks.
