Tomahawks Strike Down Black Bears in 4-1 Win

The Johnstown Tomahawks defeated the Maryland Black Bears by a final score of, 4-1 on Saturday night.

The action kicked off just three minutes into regulation as Ryan Flaherty netted his 11th goal of the season, with an assist from Taybor Aldrich, putting the Tomahawks on the board early. In goal, Nick Avakyan got the start and stood tall in the first period, turning aside all eight shots from the Black Bears. At the first intermission, the Tomahawks held a 1-0 lead.

Starting the second period on the power play, the Tomahawks wasted no time taking advantage. Just 15 seconds in, Tate Pecknold buried his sixth goal of the season, assisted by Sam Blanton, to extend the lead to 2-0. Maryland responded with a goal of their own, cutting the deficit to 2-1. As the period neared its end, the Tomahawks found themselves on the penalty kill with only 13 seconds remaining. Despite being short-handed, Nick Jarmain delivered a short-handed goal with a stellar setup from Hank Reed, restoring the two-goal cushion and making it 3-1 heading into the final frame.

It was a low-scoring third period however, Tate Pecknold extended his impressive November campaign by notching his second power-play goal of the game to put the Tomahawks in the driver's seat, 4-1. Netminder, Nick Avakyan had an impressive outing stopping, 26-of-27 shots on goal in the Tomahawks' 4-1, victory over the Maryland Black Bears.

The Johnstown Tomahawks return home next week for an exciting weekend series against the Rochester Jr. Americans.
