
Toledo Walleye Reel In Talent from Free Agent Tryout Camp

(TOLEDO, OH) - The Toledo Walleye have extended training camp offers to five players that participated in the Free Agent Tryout Camp on August 22-23.
Forwards Jake Coyle and Mitch Kerns will join defensemen Edward Levins and Brian Dunford along with goaltender John Petrous at the Toledo Walleye Training Camp (1st on-ice practice on Friday, October 2nd at the Ice House at 1258 West Alexis Road).
Walleye Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Nick Vitucci said, "I was thrilled with the entire process of the free agent camp and pleasantly surprised at the talent pool to choose from. We look forward to these five players coming to our Training Camp and continuing what they started last weekend."
22-year-old Jake Coyle (5'7" 180 lbs.) had 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists) in 24 games as a freshman for Division III Utica College (Utica, New York). The center has previous experience in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) for the Cleveland Barons and Mahoning Valley Phantoms, and in the United States Hockey League (USHL) for the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets. Coyle is from Cleveland, Ohio.
23-year-old Mitch Kerns (5'11" 190 lbs.) was the number one overall pick by the Green Bay Gamblers in the 2004 USHL draft. The Green Bay, Wisc. native played for the Gamblers and Omaha Lancers in 2004-05 and the Billings Bulls of the NAHL in 2005-06. Kerns attended UW-River Falls (Division III). The forward played two seasons there and combined for 32 points (9 goals, 23 assists) in 47 games.
22-year-old Edward Levins (6'3", 200 lbs.) is from Windermere, Fla. He has prior experience with the Indiana Ice of the USHL. In the 2006-07 season, he scored two goals, added five assists and had 100 penalty minutes in 46 games.
22-year-old Brian Dunford (5'11" 180 lbs.) has previous experience in the Atlantic Junior Hockey League (AJHL) with the Boston Bulldogs and Laconia Leafs. The defenseman spent the 2008-09 season playing for Lebanon Valley College (Division III) and had one assist in four games. His cousin, Tim Organ, is a former baseball player for the Toledo Rockets.
27-year-old John Petrous (6'0", 205 lbs.) has not played higher than the high school level. He currently resides in Farmington Hills, Mich.
