December 13, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins rebounded from a loss on Friday night to take a 3-2 road victory over the Lowell Lock Monsters on Saturday night. The Bruins have now moved back into a tie for first place in the Atlantic Division with their 14-9-5-0 record.
Bruin goaltender Hannu Toivonen was outstanding in posting his ninth win of the season, as he stopped 40 of the 42 shots he faced on the night. Center Matt Herr had a three-point night, scoring on a penalty shot, and assisting on two other goals. Left wing Darren VanOene notched his third goal of the year, while rookie defenseman Milan Jurcina tallied the game-winner on his second goal of the year.
Herr's penalty shot goal was the Bruins' first since former Bruin Shawn Bates scored one on October 9, 1998 against the Springfield Falcons. It was also the seventh in franchise history. Ivan Huml was stopped on a penalty shot earlier this season in Philadelphia, on November 16.
The Bruins and Lowell conclude their home-and-home series at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday, December 14 at 4:05 p.m.
The Bruins' Holiday Hats & Mittens Drive continues on Sunday, December 14 from 2:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The drive concludes on Friday, December 19 from 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Fans are asked to donate hats and mittens in the Dunkin' Donuts Center box office lobby to benefit the Salvation Army of Rhode Island.
The Bruins are currently offering a Holiday FlexTix Special. The Special gives fans the opportunity to receive a free Providence Bruins hat, with the purchase of 10 FlexTix. The Holiday FlexTix promotion runs through December 31.
