December 13, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Grand Rapids Griffins News Release

MILWAUKEE - After losing two games by one goal, the Grand Rapids Griffins handed the Milwaukee Admirals (12-7-3-2) a one-goal defeat with a 2-1 win on Saturday night at the Bradley Center. The Griffins (16-8-4-0), playing without seven of their top skaters and their captain, used rookie forward Matt Ellis's first goal as a Griffin as the game-winning tally. Marc Lamothe stopped 28 shots to snap the team's two-game losing streak.

Grand Rapids leads the league with 10 wins on the road and has a 10-4-1-0 record in enemy territory.

The Griffins are 3-0-0-0 against the Admirals this season, outscoring them 8-3, despite facing a 50-shot deficit (112-62) in their three encounters.

Grand Rapids opened the scoring with a power play marker by Michel Picard with 1:10 remaining in the first period. Picard has a point in each of the last three games (2-1-3). Jeff Nelson and Nathan Robinson assisted on the goal. The assist extends Robinson's point streak to a Griffins season-high seven games (2-5-7). Nelson, playing in his 500th American Hockey League game, has picked up a point in each of the three games (1-2-3) of his current stint with the Griffins.

Milwaukee answered with a power play goal of its own. Mathieu Darche tipped a shot 15 feet in front of Lamothe redirecting the puck past the Griffins netminder. Brad Tiley and Simon Gamache assisted on the goal at 7:22 of the second period.

Ellis gave the Griffins a 2-1 lead with 6:48 remaining in the third period with an unassisted goal. Ellis shot the puck from 50 feet away. Milwaukee netminder Wade Flaherty made the initial save. Flaherty attempted to clear the puck, but his try caromed off the traffic in front of him and into the Admirals net. Flaherty finished with 25 saves.

The Griffins are back in action on Wednesday night, when they host the San Antonio Rampage at 7 p.m.
