Wilson Tobs News Release

WILSON, N.C. - Second Baseman Keith Morrisroe smacked a two-run single up the middle with two out in the bottom of the sixth inning, to lead the Wilson Tobs (2-4, 18-17) past the Thomasville HiToms (6-2, 20-16), 3-2 on Saturday night in front of 1,351 at Fleming Stadium.

Morrisroe's single in the sixth came with two runners in scoring position. Catcher Brian Holberton led off the fame with a single, and he was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by 1B Steve Nikorak. Shortstop Angelo LaBruna then drew a five-pitch walk, which was followed by a groundout by 3B Zac Mitchell to advance the runners to second and third. Morrisroe's single was his second of the game, and it extended his current on-base streak to 17 games.

The Tobs got their first run in the bottom of the third trailing 2-0. Mitchell led the inning off with a single and Morrisroe followed with a single to put two on with no one out. Left fielder Joe Costigan then grounded into a 4-6-3 double play, which eliminated Morrisroe from the base path, but sent Mitchell to third. Mitchell was brought home on an RBI single by CF Ryan Mathews. The RBI for Mathews was his team-leading 24th of the year.

The HiToms had taken the 2-0 lead in the top of the third thanks to a solo homerun to left-center field by catcher Jacob Fisher. An error by LaBruna in the first inning led to Thomasville's first run of the ball game.

Getting the win for Wilson was LHP Jon Levin (2-0), who pitched three scoreless innings of two-hit ball. Levin replaced Tobs starter Clay Murphy, who went five innings and surrendered two runs (one earned) on two walks and five hits while striking out five. RHP Tony Wieber came on for Wilson in the ninth to record his fifth save of the summer.

RHP Matt Dillon (2-1) took the loss for Thomasville. Dillon threw 1.2 innings and gave up two runs on two hits and three walks.

The Tobs head on the road on Sunday, July 10 to take on the Edenton Steamers. First

pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. On the hill for Wilson will be LHP Brice Rivenbark (2-3), making his seventh start of the summer. The Tobs return home to Fleming Stadium on Monday, July 11 to play an 11:05am game against the Outer Banks Daredevils. For tickets call the Tobs box office at 252-291-TOBS.
