Wilson Tobs News Release

WILSON, N.C.- The Wilson Tobs and Peninsula Pilots played for the second time in as may days, with the result turning out to be the same, a Wilson Tobs victory. Saturday night Wilson won by a score of 2-1 over Peninsula on a rainy night in Fleming Stadium.

The story of the game was fundamentals. The Pilots committed 3 errors, which lead to the Tobs two un-earned runs, and ultimately the Tobs win. With two sacrifice fly outs, Wilson earned the victory.

The Tobs got on the board early with a sacrifice fly by Ryan Daughtry (who later extended his hitting streak to eight games). Daughtry's fly ball brought in Zach Mitchell (who was on base three times on Saturday night). After a lead off walk and then a two base throwing error put Nick Ratajczak on third, Joe Costigan stepped up to the plate and hit a fly ball to center field. The fly out to center was deep enough to score Ratajczak and the Tobs led 2-1.

Craig Goodman pitched great. The right-hander from Tusculum College went six and two-thirds innings gave up seven hits, one earned run and struck out six. The bullpen then relieved Goodman, and held the game at 2-1.

John Levin pitched a scoreless one and one- third inning to pick up the win his first of the year and Austin Chrismon of Peninsula was strapped with his first loss of the season. Chrismon, gave up only two un-earned runs, but suffered the loss. The Pilots committed three errors on the night, all three proving to be costly.

Tony Wieber came on in the ninth and retired the side in order to earn his first save of the season. In Wieber's three appearances this season he has yet to allow a hit let alone a run.

The Tobs and Pilots had to wait for the rain to pass, but after the 53-minute rain delay was concluded, the Tobs got back to business and earned another victory. The Wilson Tobs improved their record to 3-8 and the Peninsula Pilots saw their record fall to 7-4. The game including the 53-minute rain delay lasted two hours and 59 minutes, 600 faithful patrons stuck out the weather to watch the Tobs victory.

The Wilson Tobs are in action again tomorrow night when the Edenton Steamers invade Historic Fleming Stadium. Sunday's game is also the first Community Church Night. First pitch between the Tobs and the Steamers will be at approximately 5:05pm
