FOREST CITY, N.C. - Thomasville used a three run fourth inning to take the lead from Forest City on Saturday night at McNair Field and they never looked back as they held on for a 7-2 win.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Brock Hebert doubled to the gap in left to begin the frame and scored one batter later when Ryan Kinsella punched a ball through the right for his 10th RBI of the season and evened the game at one. The HiToms took the lead later in the frame as Jacob Fisher doubled home Kinsella and gave Thomasville (5-5) a 3-1 lead, which also chased Michael Green (L, 1-2) from the game.
Forest City (6-6) drew first blood in the bottom of the third against Mike Mayers (W, 1-0) with two outs. After a walk to Konstantie Diamadours put runners at first and second, Dusty Quattlebaum lined one to right where James Harris fired late to the plate and the Owls took a 1-0 advantage after three.
Mayers left the game after the fifth up 3-1 as he worked five innings allowing just the one run as he scattered four hits and struck out five.
Kyle Barbeck worked the sixth inning and gave up a one out triple which was followed by a groundout to cut the lead to one at 3-2 after six.
In the eighth, the HiToms added a couple of insurance runs against Ryan Tezak. Kinsella doubled to begin the frame and later scored on a wild pitch, while Alex Williams walked and score on an infield hit later in the frame to give the Tommies some breathing room.
The game was put away by the HiToms in the top of the ninth as they scored two more runs and took home their third consecutive win over Forest City 7-2.
Thomasville will take on the Asheboro Copperheads for the first time in 2011 on Sunday afternoon at Finch Field with first pitch is set for 5:00.
