Brampton Steelheads News Release

Oshawa, ON - The Steelheads played their third game in as many days Sunday afternoon, as they made their way to the General Motors Centre to take on the reigning Memorial Cup Champions, the Oshawa Generals. Mississauga entered today's game coming off a 4-1 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs, while Oshawa looked to bounce back after a 5-1 loss to the Peterborough Petes.

The Steelheads welcomed Josh Burnside back to the line up for his first game since being named captain. Owen Tippett got things going for the Steelheads early in the first, putting the first shot of the game past Brodeur at 4:16. Everett Clark and Josh Burnside picked up the assists on Tippett's eighth of the season. Each team had pair of power play opportunities, but neither could capitalize on the man-advantage as the Steelheads held a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Similar to the opening frame, the Steelheads would strike again early in the second as Jason Smith extended their lead 2-0. Nathan Bastian and Michael McLeod assisted on Smith's third of the season. Two minutes later, Oshawa would cut the deficit as Domenic Commisso netted his seventh of the season from Michael Dal Colle and Kenny Huether. Commisso would then head to the box to serve a delay of game penalty, giving the Steelheads their third power play opportunity of the game. After the Gens successfully killed off that penalty, Kyle MacLean fedCommisso as he came out of the box, sending him on a breakaway where he made no mistake beating Flinn for his eighth of the season and second of the game. The game would stay locked at 2-2 heading into the second intermission.

The third period saw a number of glorious chances at both ends, but Flinn and Brodeur stood tall to send the game into sudden death 3-on-3 overtime. Despite an exciting five minutes filled with great chances, a shootout would be necessary to determine a winner. Mitchell Vande Sompel was up first for the Generals, and he shot the puck just wide. With one goal in regulation, Owen Tippett would be the first shooter for Mississauga, and he made no mistake. The second set of shooters, Domenic Commisso for Oshawa and Alexander Nylander for Mississauga, both missed, and Jack Flinn made the save on the final shooter, Matt Mistele to seal a 3-2 win for the Trout.

The Steelheads will have a home and home series with the IceDogs this week, starting Thursday when they head to Niagara for a 7 p.m. start at the Meridian Centre.
