Kingston Beats Sarnia 4-1

Goaltender Justin Fazio deserved a better fate as he was terrific in net for the Sting. Sarnia dropped their third straight game on the road, losing to the Kingston Frontenacs 4-1, Sunday afternoon at the K-Rock Centre.

Fazio kept his team in the game all the way to the final. Kingston put the game away with two late goals in the third period. Fazio ended up with 29 saves, many of the highlight reel variety.

Spencer Watson, had a goal and two assists while Jason Robertson netted what proved to be the winning goal late in the second period, as part of a two point afternoon, to lead the Frontenacs to victory. Roland McKeown and Lawson Crouse, with an empty netter also scored for Kingston. Lucas Peressini stopped 27 of 28 shots for the Frontenacs in goal.

Zachery Core scored the lone goal for the Sting, as they finished off a disappointing three game road trip losing to the Peterborough Petes, Ottawa 67's and in Kingston, this afternoon.

Both teams came out hard and the pace was fast although scoring chances were held to a minimum.

Sarnia, scored an apparent goal four minutes in, but the goal was waived off when it was ruled to never have crossed the blue line. There was no review on the play.

Kingston, scored the only goal of the opening frame at 6:06, as Watson finished off a 2 on 1 break after receiving a tape to tape pass from winger Warren Foegele. Chad Duchesne also was credited with an assist.

Sarnia's best scoring chance came in the final minute when Brandon Lindberg found himself with the puck on his stick following a rebound save from goaltender Lucas Peressini, but he hurried his shot and put the puck wide of the far side of the net. Kingston out shot Sarnia in an evenly played period 9-8.

Fazio was the story of the second period, as he took a beating, stopping the puck off his mask twice and then getting nailed in the final minute on a collision with Foegele - who was called for goaltender interference. In between, Fazio stopped numerous scoring chances and could not be faulted on the Kingston power play goal from Robertson, following a four minute minor assessed to Hayden Hodgson for a check from behind. The goal put Kingston ahead 2-1 after two periods of play.

Sarnia tied the game at 7:07 of the second period, on Zachary Core's first goal of the season. Core coming down as the trailer got the scoring chance letting go a wrist shot with Peressinidown and out after a save. Core made no mistake, depositing the puck into the wide open gapping net. Sasha Chmelevski and Patrick White drew the helpers.

The Frontenacs put the game away in the third period scoring a pair of late goals from McKeown at 15:08 and an empty net goal from Crouse in the final minute of play in the game. Kingston out played Sarnia in the final period and Fazio kept his team in the game with save after save.

Sarnia has a three in three weekend. Friday night (7:05 puck drop) at the SSEC against the Battalion, then play the Firebirds Saturday night in Flint, Michigan before returning for an afternoon tilt to close out the weekend play with a rematch against the Ottawa 67's, on the Teddy Bear Toss, Sunday afternoon (2:05 puck drop)

Sting Notebook - Kingston swept the three stars in order with Jason Robertson, Warren Foegele and Roland McKeown.

This was the final meeting this season with Kingston, as the Sting went 1-1, beating the Frontenacs 4-3 in a shoot-out at home, September 27th.

Sarnia was 0/2 on the power play and Kingston scored once in three chances.

Hayden Hodges played in his 196th career OHL game, including the past three seasons with the Sting.

Noah Bushnell, Troy Lajeunesse and head coach Darian Hatcher, returned after completing their two game league suspension.
