Outfielder Tyler Malone transferred from Single-A Lake Elsinore to High-A Fort Wayne

TRANSACTION: On Saturday, the Padres transferred 24-year-old outfielder Tyler Malone to the TinCaps. The former College World Series champ with Oregon State has been assigned from the Arizona Complex League, where he played in games on Tuesday and Thursday, rehabbing an injury. He opened the season with Single-A Lake Elsinore before going on the Injured List May 4. After being activiated on May 20, he wound up on the IL again on June 2. In 20 games with the Storm, he slashed .244 / .452 / .378 (.830 OPS). He appeared in 20 games with the TinCaps in the second half of last season (.671 OPS).

260 TO THE SHOW: Since Fort Wayne's franchise was established in 1993, there've been 208 alumni who've gone on to appear in the majors, including 53 this season. That list grew Friday as Wynton Bernard was called up to the Rockies from Triple-A Albuquerque. Bernard, a 31-year-old outfielder, played for the TinCaps in 2013... The alumni list also features 5 players who were selected to this year's MLB All-Star Game: Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner (2014), Mariners first baseman Ty France (2016), Braves starting pitcher Max Fried (2013-14), Cardinals starting pitcher Miles Mikolas (2010), and Pirates reliever David Bednar (2016-17).

PATIENT: The TinCaps lead the MWL in walks drawn (4.7 per game).

CAUGHT 'EM: The TinCaps lead the MWL in throwing runners out trying to steal (40 CS). Brandon Valenzuela leads the league with 25, while Anthony Vilar has nabbed 12, and Adam Kerner has caught 3.

MISCELLANEOUS: The TinCaps are 34-19 when scoring first (64% win rate) and 10-43 when they don't (18%)... Fort Wayne is 13-14 in 1-run games, 6-16 in 2-run games, and 1-3 in extra-innings.

HOT CAPS: Prior to this series, the TinCaps were unbeaten over their previous 5 sets (2-0-3) with a 15-10 record since July 8.

JOSHUA MEARS: Since returning to Fort Wayne on July 26 (15 games), he's leading the team in nearly every offensive category as he's slashed .304 / .328 / .625 (.953 OPS) with 5 homers, 3 doubles, and 13 RBIs, while also becoming the primary center fielder on defense.

JARRYD DALE: Ranks 4th in the MWL in games (101), 5th in walks (60), and 8th in stolen bases (24).

HOMESTAND HIGHLIGHTS: The TinCaps will host the Dayton Dragons (Reds affiliate) next Tuesday-Sunday at Parkview Field. Tuesday night will be a Peanut-Free game for those with severe allergies, as well as a US Foods Family Feast Night ($2 concessions)...
