
Tincaps Send Kernels to Second Loss in a Row

July 9, 2009 - The Fort Wayne Tincaps scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning to send the Cedar Rapids Kernels to their second loss in a row, 12-5, in front of 3,460 fans on Country Night at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Kernels trailed 6-5 heading into the 9th inning, but the Tincaps scored six runs off Kernel relievers Kyle Hurst and Kevin Nabors.
Beau Brooks had three of the Kernels 12 hits, going 3-5 with a triple, RBI and run scored. Tyson Auer went 2-5 with 2 RBI as Matt Crawford and Gabe Jacobo added an RBI. Every Kernel starter had at least one hit. Drew Cumberland went 3-3 and scored four runs and Allan Dykstra was 1-3 with 3 RBI.
Kernels starter Tyler Chatwood (3-5) allowed six runs on 11 hits over four innings of work. Fort Wayne starter Anthony Bass (9-3) picked up the win despite allowing four runs on eight hits over five innings.
The Kernels will look to avoid the series sweep on Friday night at 6:35 pm. The wild and crazy Birdzerk will be on hand to entertain fans throughout the game.
