'Caps Rebound Against Rattlers

APPLETON, WI- The West Michigan Whitecaps pounded out seventeen hits in an 11-2 triumph over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Thursday night at Fox Cities Stadium. The win was the first for the ‘Caps over the ‘Rattlers in 2009, and each team has now won a game in the series.

Casey Crosby started for the Whitecaps and tossed four impressive innings. Crosby's final line included two hits allowed, no runs, and three walks with eight strikeouts. He did not pitch the necessary five innings to be considered for the win. Anthony Shawler (4-3) fired three innings of relief for his fourth win.

A night after being held to two hits, the Whitecaps erupted for seventeen hits and eleven runs.

The ‘Caps started the game with their first four hitters getting singles and eventually a 3-0 lead.

In the second, the Whitecaps strung together four more consecutive hits as part of a two-run inning. The ‘Caps led 5-0 after two innings of play.

The Whitecaps put the game away in the fourth as Ben Guez tripled in Gustavo Nunez and Bryan Pounds, and then he scored on an errant throw to third for a 9-0 Whitecaps' advantage.

Wisconsin tallied a run in the fifth on Peter Fatse's RBI triple that brought home Juan Sanchez.

Gustavo Nunez came through with a two-out, two-run single in the seventh scoring Joe Bowen and Avisail Garcia, and put the Whitecaps ahead, 11-1.

The Timber Rattlers added a run in the ninth as Michael Marseco singled and came home on Derrick McPhearson's double.

Gustavo Nunez finished 3-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. Bryan Pounds was 3-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs.

Joe Bowen ended up 2-4 scoring twice, and Avisail Garcia was 4-5 with 2 runs and an RBI.

Wisconsin starter Trey Watten takes the loss. He's now 4-7.

The three game series concludes Friday night at Fox Cities Stadium as the Whitecaps send out RHP Brandon Hamilton, and the Timber Rattlers counter with Dave Bush in a rehab start from the Milwaukee Brewers. Game time is 8:05 EST.
