FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Everett Williams reached all four times he came to the plate and the TinCaps outlasted the Great Lakes Loons, 6-4, Thursday at Parkview Field.

The TinCaps cut their magic number to clinch a playoff spot to two as the Lansing Lugnuts lost to the West Michigan Whitecaps, 10-6.

Fort Wayne struck in the bottom of the second. Back-to-back doubles by Nate Freiman and Daniel Meeley brought home the first run, then a bases-loaded walk by Danny Payne made it 2- 0.

Brian Cavazos-Galvez cranked a solo homer in the fourth to cut the lead in half, but the TinCaps plated two of their own in the bottom of the inning on a Jeudy Valdez sacrifice fly and a Jason Hagerty single which put the TinCaps ahead, 4-1.

The Loons scored a run in the fifth to make it a 4-2 game, but RHP Stiven Osuna came on to strike out a pair of batters, one with the bases loaded, to keep Fort Wayne in front.

The TinCaps came up with a two-out rally in the bottom of the frame. After back-to-back walks, Williams yanked a two-run double into the right-field corner to expand the lead to 6-2.

In the seventh, Christian Lara scored when Blake Smith reached on an error. J.T. Wise led off the eighth with a home run to cut the TinCaps' lead to 6-4, but the Fort Wayne bullpen shut the door from there.

Fort Wayne RHP Stiven Osuna (3-3) picked up the win after 2.1 strong innings; Great Lakes RHP Edwin Contreras (3-1) picked up the victory. RHP Miles Mikolas notched his 11th save for Fort Wayne by pitching a scoreless ninth.

Fort Wayne improved to 37-22 in the half, 73-56 for the season. The Loons dipped to 40-19 in the second half, 83-45 for the year.

The TinCaps finish the three-game series Friday against the Loons (Class-A Los Angeles Dodgers) at 7:05 p.m. Fort Wayne RHP Jerry Sullivan (7-4) goes to the mound against Great Lakes RHP Matt Magill (7-4).
