YESTERDAY: The TinCaps blanked South Bend, 3-0. G.K. Young hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, while Fernando Tatis Jr. added a sac fly and Jack Suwinski tacked on an RBI single in the eighth. On the mound, Logan Allen went the first 5 2/3 innings, while Jim McDade tossed 2 1/3 scoreless frames of relief and David Bednar notched the save in the ninth.
000: Monday marked the TinCaps' third shutout victory of the season.
WELCOME BACK: After their longest road trip of the year (8 games), the TinCaps get to play 10 of their next 13 at Parkview Field, and 13 of their remaining 19 games at home to end the season's first half.
ALLEN IS AN ACE: With the recent promotions of starting pitchers Jesse Scholtens and Jerry Keel, Logan Allen has asserted himself as the clear ace of the TinCaps' staff, and one of the best pitchers in the Midwest League this season. Here's where he ranks among league leaders... ERA (5th, 1.54)... Strikeouts (56, 4th)... K/9 (10.8, 4th)... K% (30%, 5th)... Batting Average Against (.175, 5th)... FIP (2.44, 3rd)... Allen is also one of only two qualifying pitchers in the league to have not allowed a home run.
TATIS AT THE TOP: Fernando Tatis Jr., last week's MWL Player of the Week, has slashed .379/.447/.697 in 17 games in the leadoff spot. (In 27 games batting third, he's .202/.298/.293.)
HOT YOUNG: G.K. Young is 7-for-13 (.538) with a double, a home run, and 2 RBIs over his last 4 games.
CONSISTENT CATCHER: Webster Rivas is on an 10-game on-base streak and an 8-game hitting streak.
TOP 10: In the MWL, Fernando Tatis Jr. is tied for 2nd in games played (48), 10th in hits (50), and 10th in total bases (82)... Jack Suwinski is tied for 2nd in games (48) and is 3rd in walks (30)... Eguy Rosario is tied for 3rd in stolen bases (15).
AS A TEAM: The TinCaps are 3rd in stolen bases (49).
ALUMNI REPORT: Over the last week, a pair of former TinCaps, right-handed starter Dinelson Lamet (2015) and outfielder Franchy Cordero (2014-15), made their MLB debuts with the Padres. That makes 152 former Wizards/TinCaps to reach the big leagues, and 32 who have appeared in the majors so far this season.
