Nuts' Bichette Named MWL Player of the Week

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Minor League Baseball announced Tuesday that Lansing Lugnuts infielder Bo Bichette has been named the Midwest League Player of the Week for the week of May 22-28.

Bichette, 19, batted 11-for-24, good for a .458 average with a .536 on-base percentage and a .750 slugging percentage. In six games, he collected four doubles, one home run, five RBIs and scored six runs.

A native of St. Petersburg, Fla., Bichette was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the second round of the 2016 draft out of Lakewood High School. He entered the 2017 season rated the Blue Jays' No. 9 prospect by MLB Pipeline and has lived up to his billing, currently leading the Midwest League in batting average (.373) and slugging percentage (.584) while ranking second in on-base percentage (.448).

The Lugnuts open a six-game road trip at 6:30 p.m. tonight with the first of three games in Eastlake, Ohio, against the Lake County Captains.
