Bowling Green is 4-3 against Fort Wayne so far, winning two of the last three games in Southcentral Kentucky in Mid-April. To begin the 2017 season, the Hot Rods and TinCaps split a four-game set, with each team going 1-1 on their home field. During that opening series, the Hot Rods pitchers held the TinCaps hitters to a .178 batting average, recording 53 strikeouts in 4 games. Roster Moves: On Tuesday, RHP Jayson McKinley was added to the Hot Rods active roster from extended spring training while RHP Peter Bayer was transferred to extended spring training. McKinley had seven saves in nine opportunities last year with Hudson Valley. He is making his first action of the 2017 season.
Rough Road: With the series against Fort Wayne starting on May 30, the Hot Rods are on a 13.5 game/14 day roadtrip. They will play three games with the TinCaps, then head to Michigan for three games with the Great Lakes Loons, head back down to Indiana for three games with the South Bend Cubs and then finish things off in Ohio with 4.5 games (conclusion of suspended game) with the Lake County Captains. The next home game for the Hot Rods is on June 13. Barring rainouts or cancelled games, this will be the longest roadtrip in Hot Rods franchise history. The previous longest roadtrip was 11 games, set in 2011 and 2014. This roadtrip will finish a stretch for the Hot Rods that includes 20 of 28 games on the road. They lost 6 of 7 games on the road against Dayton and West Michigan and then went 5-3 in a homestand against South Bend and Lake County. Bowling Green is just 7-14 on the road this season.
