SUNDAY AFTERNOON: MacKenzie Gore set a career high with 10 strikeouts, in 5 innings, but the TinCaps lost to the Chiefs, 2-1. Peoria put up a run in the second and another in the third. Fort Wayne's only run came in the sixth on an RBI double from Tirso Ornelas, who finished with 3 hits.

EYE ON SEPTEMBER: Despite their current 4-game skid, the TinCaps are effectively tied for first place in the Eastern Division among the 6 teams vying for the 2 second-half playoff spots. Fort Wayne is even with Dayton, Lake County, and South Bend. West Michigan is 1 game back, and Great Lakes is 5 in the rearview.

IN CONTROL: TinCaps pitchers have walked the fewest batters in the Midwest League this season - 270 in 805.0 IP. That's only 3.0 BB/9.

THE FUTURE IS NOW: Baseball America rated 2017 TinCaps shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. as the "Best Player" in Sunday's MLB Futures Game. The 19-year-old went 2-for-5 for the World Team. Tatis also stole a base, was smooth at short, and while playing third, unleashed a throw to first at 91 MPH. One of his hits came on a 102 MPH fastball by Dayton's Hunter Greene.

TRES PARA TIRSO: Tirso Ornelas ranks 2nd on the team in multi-hit games with 23 (Jeisson Rosario has 25). Ornelas has had a season-best 3 hits on 5 occasions (only Esteury Ruiz has more 3+ hit games with 8).

KELVIN GETS ON: Kelvin Melean has reached base safely in each of his first 7 games with the TinCaps.

HOT AND COLD: Before their current 4-game losing streak and a stretch of dropping 8 of 9, the TinCaps had won 11 of 13, and had winning streaks of 6 and 4 games along the way.

ROUGH ON THE ROAD: The TinCaps are 16-29 (.355) on the road this season compared to 28-20 at Parkview Field. Fort Wayne is 6-3 @ Great Lakes, and 10-26 elsewhere. TinCaps pitchers actually have a lower ERA on the road than they do at home (3.69 vs. 3.71). However, Fort Wayne is hitting .217 on the road, while batting .263 at home. At home, the 'Caps have averaged 4.8 runs per game. That number drops to 3.6 on the road. There are a few individual exceptions, though, of guys who are batting better away... Jalen Washington: .268 road vs. .207 home; Robbie Podorsky: .369 road vs. .333 home; Jeisson Rosario: .282 road vs. .266 home.

RI(S)P: The TinCaps are 1-for-22 (.045) with runners in scoring position over the last 3 games, leaving 23 runners on base. For the season, the 'Caps have hit .241 with runners in scoring position. Robbie Podorsky is batting a team-best .375 with RISP, while Juan Fernandez follows at .283.

LEAGUE LEADERS: Jeisson Rosario is 6th in runs (56), 7th in walks (49), 8th in OBP (.382)... Esteury Ruiz is 3rd in SB (32)... Robbie Podorsky is tied 9th in SB (20)... Osvaldo Hernandez is 1st in ERA (2.25)... Aaron Leasher is 8th in ERA (3.06)... Travis Radke is 3rd in saves (11).

BULLPEN BOOMERANG: TinCaps relievers have posted a sub-3 ERA over the last 74 games since April 25. In this time, the 'pen has been led by Travis Radke, Caleb Boushley, Evan Miller, and Ben Sheckler. Through the first 19 games of the year, the bullpen had allowed 60 ER in 72.1 IP for a 7.47 ERA.
