Chiefs Shut Out by TinCaps 4-0

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs were shut out by the Fort Wayne TinCaps 4-0 on Monday afternoon in the series finale. The Chiefs are now 13-10 in the second half and 52-41 overall heading into the league wide off day on Tuesday.
The TinCaps jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first on Chiefs starter Alvaro Seijas. Kelvin Melean walked and Luis Campusano singled with one out. Gabriel Arias singled to score Melean from second and he advanced to second on the throw to third as Fort Wayne grabbed a 1-0 lead.
Fort Wayne added another run in the top of the third inning. Melean drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Campusano drove in Melean with a single to left for a 2-0 advantage.
The long ball extended the margin in the top of the seventh for the Tin Caps against reliever CJ Saylor. With two outs, Jalen Washington launched a solo homer over the fence in left field as the TinCaps went ahead 3-0.
Fort Wayne tacked on another insurance run in the top of the eighth against reliever Fabian Blanco. Melean clubbed a leadoff double to the gap in left center and Luis Campusano lined a one-out single to center to plate Melean for a 4-0 lead.
Seijas (2-6) took the loss throwing six innings allowing two runs on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Saylor pitched one inning allowing one run on a solo homer with no walks and two strikeouts. Blanco allowed one run over two innings on two hits with no walks and no strikeouts.
