Chisholm Breaks Out, So Do Cougars

Dayton, Ohio - Jazz Chisholm's five-hit, two homer night helped the Kane County Cougars (46-48, 11-14) snap a four-game losing streak with a 13-4 triumph over the Dayton Dragons (43-50, 12-13) on Monday night at Fifth Third Field.

After three runs the first two games of the series, the Cougars hung a four-spot in the first inning. Chisholm's RBI triple made it 1-0. Yoel Yanqui recorded an RBI single, Yan Sanchez an RBI ground out and Tim Susnara brought in the fourth run on a double. In the second, Chisholm hit a solo homer, making it 5-0 Cougars.

Dayton got on the board in the third on Raul Wallace's homer.

In the fourth, Gabriel Maciel drove in a run with a single. Chisholm belted his second homer of the night, this one a two-run blast to push the advantage to 8-1 Cougars.

Andy Sugilio singled home a run for the Dragons in the bottom of the fifth, but once again, the Cougars had a response. In the top of the sixth, Tim Susnara drove in two more for the Cougars with a single. The next batter, Eudy Ramos, banged one out to center for his sixth homer of the year, advancing the score to 12-2 Cougars.

Mark Kolozsvary recorded an RBI single for Dayton in the eighth. Chisholm notched his fifth RBI of the night with a single in the ninth. The Dragons collected an inconsequential tally in the bottom half of the ninth.

Brian Shaffer (6-5) earned the win for the Cougars, lasting five innings, surrendering two runs and striking out five batters. Cole Bartlett hurled three innings, yielding one run. Kyler Stout let one run cross in his lone inning of work.

Dayton starter Adrian Gonzalez (4-5) was hit with the loss, allowing eight runs over 3.1 innings. Brian Hunter shutout the Cougars in 1.2 innings. Aaron Quillen served up four runs in three innings. Aneurys Zabala allowed an unearned run in the ninth.

After an off day Tuesday, the Cougars return to Northwestern Medicine Field to begin a nine-game homestand, beginning with a three-game set against the West Michigan Whitecaps.
